On Saturday 4th June, with the remains of the Royal Haskoning Cocktail party marquee being dismantled and the smell of expensive champagne still looming in the air, 13 (and a half) riders set off from Dean’s Yard on the London to Haywards Heath leg of the ride for Stuart. The half-person being the youngest member of the ride, 18 month toddler Poppy, who enjoyed the sites of south London in between regular naps.
Despite being one of the shorter distances between our offices, the complexity of battling London traffic and the numerous steep hills south of London made the ride all the more challenging. All participants completed the ride in 7 hours (nearly 2 hours more than planned), although one flat tire and two broken chains (on a tandem bike) contributed to some delay.
A truly lovely day and weather for a leisurely bike ride, and Stuart was in our thoughts throughout the day. As a result we are pleased to have raised £1600 in counting, for our friend and colleague, including some generous donations from curious bystanders on the day. We will continue to help raise money where possible and on behalf of the London offices, we wish Stuart a successful journey on his road to recovery.

"A tiring but very enjoyable day for a worthwhile cause" – Mark Hill (senior tandem rider)
“As a 'non-cyclist' I was really pleased to complete the distance. There was a great atmosphere all the way along and the laughs and encouragement from the other riders made a real difference. As did the sunshine and the stunning views from the top of some pretty steep hills!”
- Alison Hallas (self proclaimed non-cyclist)
“A great day with amazing weather and lovely countryside. I also got to experience a tandem bike for the first time!” – Amy Clark (first time tandem-er)
"I think in general I rode a good race. I paced myself well at the start although had to question myself in the final third. Questions like, have I had too many pints? Regardless I powered on to complete a stunning ride. Very enjoyable." – Dan Boulden (Tour de HH pro)
